Very nice figures for the July traffic at Billund

The number of charter tourist passengers shows, that Billund maintains its position as the central airport in West Denmark. An increase of 5 per cent added to the high number already present. Never before in the history of the airport has the charter tourist traffic been higher in a single month.

Greece took the first place with Turkey, Bulgaria, Spain and Croatia following suit, looking at the number of holiday travellers from Denmark.

The total number of passengers in July was 233,908 - a decline of 3.6 per cent compared to July last year.

The decline is due to the changes the airlines made from the winter to the summer timetable. New actors came in, and they now recognise and respond to the fact, that they have underestimated the demand on international routes . As far as the domestic routes are concerned, the closing of the feeder route between Billund and Aalborg is felt, also the lesser Sterling feeder traffic between Copenhagen and Billund. The reduced capacity Cimber Air introduced between Billund and Copenhagen is noticeable in the number of passengers carried.  On the other hand Cimber has had a tremendous succes on its service between Billund and the island of Bornholm, with almost no vacant seats on every flight.

For all types of traffic there are good news:

Cirrus Airline/Lufthansa has increased the capacity on the scheduled service between Billund and Frankfurt by using the 72 seats Embraer 170 instead of the 50 seats Embraer 145 on their three daily double flights.

KLM has announced 4 daily departures on the Billund-Amsterdam servcie from the winter timetable, 2 of these frequencies will use Boeing 737 – 300.

Starting August 28 SUN-AIR enters a service between Billund and Paris.

Responding to the succres on its Bornholm route, Cimber Air has extended the service to mid October.

To name but a few of the news on the charter tourist market:

Bravo Tours increases the number of departures to The Azores.

In the coming winter also Folkeferie starts flights to The Azores.

Sun Tours will take up flights from Billund to Gran Canaria in the coming winter.

Scanway/Tyrkieteksperten has announced direct flights to Thailand every week in the winter programme, and as a brand new charter tourist destination Dubai will be offered.

Apollo Rejser using scheduled routes offers Thailand, Mexico and The Dominican Republic among other destinations from Billund.

Falk Lauritsen continues its direct flights to Isla Margarita and using scheduled services  to destinations as Costa Rica, The Dominican Republic and Cuba.

Krone Golf Tour and Green2green offers Lisbon and Algarve weekly from February.

Atlantis resumes Luxor and Sharm el Sheik.

Needles to say all above flight are from Billund.
