Billund Airport at the turn of the year 006-2007
In 2006 Billund Airport experienced quite big changes in all areas of the passenger traffic.
The international scheduled traffic was marked by the restructuring following the merging of Maersk Air and Sterling and the strategy of the resulting company, Sterling Airlines.
Good for Billund and the passengers of West Denmark other companies have established themselves on the main routes. But for many months too few seats were offered to meet the demand.
At the turn of the year KLM, Cirrus/Lufthansa, Cimber and SUN-AIR are well established on the main part of the essential international routes. Sterling has concetrated its activity on a few, under which not least some important summer destinations. Further Ryanair is active on routes to Pisa, Madrid and Dublin. Finally Atlantic and DAT maimtains their traffic from Billund.
Considering the domestic traffic, Cimber took over the route between Billund and Copenhagen. Unfortunately Billund lost the former feeder route to and from Aalborg at the beginning of the year. On the other hand scheduled traffic between Billund and Bornholm was established with succes by Cimber.
Taken as a whole the outlook for the scheduled traffic in 2207 is very good.
The charter traffic has been strongly influenced by the so called Muhammed-crises. Collectively Turkey, Egypt and Tunesia lost nearly 70,000 passengers. Luckiily Spain, Greece and Bulgaria could take over and grow with a corresponding number of passengers.

Taken as a whole the charter traffic has decreased, but the prospects for 2007 are very fine.
We expect, that especially the traffic to Italy will grow in 2007:
Star Tour to Sicily direct from Billund.
Risskov Rejser with its own aircraft from Billund to Rome, Verona and Triest.
Sun Tours with its own aircraft to Sardinia.
And additional leisure traffic with scheduled services to both Rome (Sterling) and Pisa (Ryanair).
The air cargo has shown a fairly good progress during 2006, a development believed to continue in 2007.
