Ryanair, Europe’s No. 1 airline today (7th September) announced two new routes from Billund. The two new routes are to Frankfurt Hahn and Pisa and will start in the beginning of November.
The route from Billund to Frankfurt Hahn will start on the 7th of November and will be trafficked three days a week and the route from Billund to Pisa will commence on the 1st of November and will be trafficked four days a week. Combined Ryanair will carry an estimated 100 000 passengers on the routes per annum. This added with the route to Dublin that is scheduled to start on the 24th of January 2007 will bring up the total Ryanair passenger numbers at Billund airport to 160 000 p/a.
Announcing the expansion in Billund today, Ryanair’s Manager Northern Europe; Wilhelm Hamilton said:
“It feels great to further our expansion in Denmark with these two very exiting new routes. The seats are currently included in our great 4 million seat sale and costs from 1 kr* so I urge everyone to book a winter get-away to Italy or Germany.”
“We compliment the Danish government on the recent steps of removing the Danish airport tax but hope that they will restrain them self’s from imposing damaging legislation on the airports. Any legislation restricting competition between the airports will only in the end hurt the consumers by higher airfares.”
Commenting today BillundAirport’s Airport Manager; Jørgen Krab Jørgensen said:
”When the Danish Parliament last autumn decided to remove the Government Airport taxes on airline passengers, we in Billund became very optimistic about the possibilities of attracting more traffic from the low cost carriers to and from Billund Airport.
Ryanair was the first airline to respond positively to these new possibilities in Denmark’s second largest airport. I am sure that Ryanair’s two new routes to Pisa and Frankfurt Hahn will be good news to the population in general as well as to the business sector.
The route to Pisa gives direct access to e.g. Florence and the popular Toscana region. Via Pisa you can reach a number of exciting Italian cities.
Like Pisa, Frankfurt Hahn is a large Ryanair base. We are certain that the population in Billund’s large catchment area will be positive towards the many possibilities offered with the route to Frankfurt Hahn, including easy access to Luxembourg, Strassbourg, the MoselValley and a number of other interesting cities.
I am sure that the entire tourism industry in the West Danish regions will become aware of the new possibilities of attracting many more foreign visitors to Jutland and Funen.”
