Ryanair announces 18th european base in Madrid - Billund gets one new route

Ryanair, Europe’s No. 1 airline today (10th October) announced its 18th European base in Madrid where it will invest $210M in 3 new aircraft and 14 routes that will deliver 1M passengers per annum. Billund will benefit from this expansion in Madrid and will get one new route to the Spanish capital starting on 22nd November 2006.
The route from Billund to Madrid will be operated four times weekly and will generate an additional 60,000 passengers per annum to and from Billund.
With today’s announcement Ryanair has effectively realised a 50% increase in traffic to and from Denmark as it will carry a total of 280,000 passengers on its new routes from Billund to Dublin, Frankfurt Hahn, Pisa, Madrid and from Aarhus to Barcelona Girona only. In addition, the low cost carrier will continue to generate traffic from its already existing routes from Aarhus and Esbjerg to London Stansted on which it transports 270,000 per annum. Combined Ryanair will carry 550,000 passengers on all routes to and from Denmark per annum.
Announcing the expansion in Billund today, Ryanair’s Sales & Marketing Manager Germany & Austria, Katja Zarbock said:
“I am delighted to be able to announce that Ryanair has successfully doubled its traffic to and from Denmark in the last four months by announcing five new routes. Danish consumers will be able to avail of our fabulous low fares and travel to Spain, Ireland, Italy, Germany and the UK from as little as 178 Danish Krone one way tax inclusive.
