  Air Passenger Rights

The European Union has sharpened the rights for air passengers as of 17 February, 2005.

  Airshells
Protective fibre casings for luggage, prams, pushchairs, bicycle, surf boards from the company Airshells can be rented for travel from Billund. Actually you can also buy from Airshells - click here.


Cassiopeia Lounge
Cassiopeia Lounge is a tastefully furnished lounge with facilities to make the waiting time until the flight departure agreeable for passengers with a Priority Pass.
Cassiopeia Lounge is situated with entrance from the balcony in the departure area, see the terminal plan, Lounges/Meetings. Cassiopeia Lounge is open Monday to Friday 0600-1800.



  Check-in

There are three ways to check-in:

  • Via the internet from home
  • Using machines or kiosks at the airport, and
  • Personally at the check-in desk

  Check-in Time

Self service check-in machines can be used for in most cases, when going on a scheduled flight.

Domestic flights
If you have a ticket, seat rservation and hand luggage only, you have to be at the gate at least 10 minutes before scheduled departure. If you travel with luggage, this must be checked-in at least 20 minutes before scheduled departure time. If you are going on a transit flight via Copenhagen, check-in must be completed at least 30 minutes before scheduled departure.

International flights

Check-in must be completed at least 30 minutes - are you travelling with KLM or Sterling 40 minutes - before scheduled departure.

If you are going on a longer journey and carry more pieces of luggage to be checked through to your final destination, you have to check-in in good time, so that the check-in can be completed at least 30 minutes (Sterling 40 minutes and KLM - see below) before scheduled departure time.

 

Check-in to a KLM flight

With baggage: KLM recommends passengers to check-in to its flights at least 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

Without baggage: KLM recommends passengers to check-in to its flights at least 45minutes before the scheduled departure time.

The check-in must in both cases be completed at least 30 minutes before scheduled departure time.

 

 

 
Charter flights
Look at the your travel paper issued by the travel agency.

Remark:

If you are travelling with many pieces or bigs sized luggage, are travelling with a live animal or having special luggage, it is always a good idea to check-in in good time - not more than 24 hours in advance though.

 




  Check-in to USA
If you are travelling with KLM to Amsterdam for transfer to a KLM flight or a flight with another carreier to the USA, you have to fill out a special form, handed to you at the the check-in counter. You can also download the form by a click here, and fill out the form before you come to the airport, and hand in the form at check-in. This will  of cause facilitate the check-in procedure.   


  Handicapped Travellers

Parking
There are a number of parking spaces reserved for handicapped drivers in the parking house and P2 and P3 of the car parks, all these places are closest to the terminal.


The Terminal
We have a three-storey terminal with easy access by elevators to all levels, and facilities for handicapped travellers, including travellers in wheelchairs. There are toilets for wheelchair users in all areas of the terminal.

Wheelchair
As a wheelchair user, you may borrow a free wheelchair in the airport, which can be used from the check-in through to boarding the aircraft.

 

Telecoil

Check-in counter B22 is equiped with telecoil, you can any information there. Flight information is displayed throughout the terminal on electronic boards and screens.


Assistance
If you need assistance to or from the aircraft, you are kindly asked to notify the airline when buying the ticket. By doing so, you are assured assistance when you arrive at the airport. Please mentione this to the personal when checking in. To assist handicapped travellers board or disembark the aircraft Billund Airport supplies a special handicap lift, a cabin, with space for six to seven persons in wheelchairs at the same time.


Private Assistant
It is possible for your own private assistant to accompany you through check-in, security, and the departure area right to the gate. Your assistant must have an admission card, obtainable from the check-in counter.




King Amlet Lounge
King Amlet Lounge is a tastefully furnished lounge with facilities to make the waiting time until the flight departure agreeable and effective for a traveller in Economy Class. You will find King Amlet Lounge via the staircase or lift in the departure area see the terminal plan, Lounges/Meetings . King Amlet Lounge is open Monday to Friday and Sunday 0600-1905, Saturday 0600-1245.


  Luggage

Baggage allowance varies considerably from airline to airline. Ask your travel agent for the specific rules concerning a particular flight.

 

In general, a traveller in Economy Class is allowed to take 20 kilograms of luggage and one piece of hand luggage of max 8 kilograms for free, while a traveller on Business Class may take 30 kilograms of luggage and one piece of hand luggage of max 8 kilograms for free. 

The hand luggage must be kept within these measurements: 45X35X20 centimetres.

 

The amount of luggage allowed for travel overseas, the rules differ from airline to airline and from destination to destination. Ask the travel agency or the airline, what you can take along for free!

 

As a rule, you must pay extra if you travel with sports equipment such as a golf bag, a bicycle, a windsurf board, diving equipment. The charges vary from one airline to the other.

 

Be aware that the maximum weight of each piece of baggage is 32 kilograms - due to handling requirements.




  Missing or Damaged Luggage

In case your luggage is missing or damaged on the actual flight please report this to the staff at the Arrival/Luggage Service desk in the arrival hall. If you need to get in contact with the Arrival/Luggage Service afterwards, it can be reached by telephone +45 7650 5234 (Opening hours: Every day 0800-1000 and 1300-1800), fax +45 7650 5239 or email: info@bll.dk.

 




Opening Hours
The Cumulus Restaurant in the main Hall opens in good time before check-in starts in the morning, irrespective of the departure time of the aircraft. Café Cirrus and the Capella Bar in the international Departure Hall stay open while there are passengers waiting for departure.

The currency exchange office is open Monday to Friday and Sunday 06.00 to 18.00 and Saturday 06.00 to 14.00. The exchange office will also be open in connection with international departures immediately before and after these hours.




  Passenger Escort Service
The Danish Customs Authorities have permitted Billund Airport to allow passengers with special needs to be escorted to the gate. Formula for passenger Escort Service is handed over by the check-in staff.


  Passport

If you are flying internationally, you will be asked for identification af the check-in counter. In many countries the only valid means of identifiction is the passport. Please remember to bring it along, whenever you are travelling internationally.

 

Passport, visa and vaccinations

After 1 October, 2004 - in case of first time or reissue of passport - children, regardless of age, must have their own passport. 

 

Be aware that certain countries demand, that children have their own passport.

 

For entry into some countries the passport must have a period of validity well beyond the actual travel period, in some cases 6 months.

 

Check with your travel agency if certain vaccinations are required by the country, you are travelling to. 

 

USA

As a tourist or on business travel of up to 90 days, you can go to the USA without a visa if you have a machine readable passport from a state participating ín the Visa Waiver Program (Denmark is a participating state). 

Danish passports issued after 1 March, 1997 are machine readable.

Important! 

Many countries require, that the name in the passport and on the air ticket are identical!

 

 




  Prams and Pushchairs

You cannot take your pram all the way to the aircraft.

 

It is the same for a pushchair, unless it is a small collapsible puschair (see picture below) and you are travelling on a British Airways or Cimber Air flight, then you can take the pushchair all the way to the aircraft.

In exceptional cases this is also a possibility, if it is a flight with KLM og Cirrus, please ask when you make your check-in.

After your own check-in hand in the pram or pushchair at counter 28 marked "Oversized baggage". A plastic bag for protection can be bought (DKK 25.-) at the Information counter.


In the departure hall - just after the security inspection - there are pushchairs, you can use for free.


Some airlines transport prams and pushchairs for free others charge a fee, if not otherwise informed please make the inquiry directly at the airline 

Plastic Bags
A plastic bag to protect your pushchair or pram can be bought (DKK 25.-) at the Information desk.

  Schengen
Danmark has adopted the Schengen Agreement together with Belgium, Estlonia, Finland, France, The Faroe Island, Greece, Greenland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg,  Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Polen, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The Check Republic, Tyskland, Hungary and Austria. The aim of the Schengen Agreement is to make it easier to travel wbetween the Schengen-countries. Normally there will be no passport control when entering a Schengen-county on a journey from an other Schengen-country. This does not mean that you can travel without your passport, as the authorities can ask to see it for idenfication.


Security

Passengers are not permitted to carry the following articles into the security restricted area or into the cabin of an aircraft:

 Chemical and Toxic substances

 Articles passengers are not permitted to carry in hold baggage

 

Guns, Firearms & Weapons

 

Any object capable, or appearing capable, of discharging a projectile or causing injury, including:

  • All firearms (Pistols, Revolvers, Rifles, Shotguns ect)
  • Replica and imitation firearms
  • Component parts of firearms, (excluding telescopic sighting devices & sights)
  • Air pistols, rifles and pellet guns
  • Signal flare pistols
  • Starter pistols
  • Toy guns of all types
  • Ball Bearing Guns
  • Industrial Bolt and Nail Guns
  • Cross bows
  • Catapults
  • Harpoon & Spear Guns
  • Animal Human Killers
  • Stun or shocking devices e.g. cattle prods, ballistic conducted energy weapons (taser)
  • Lighters shaped like a firearm

 

Pointed Weapons & Sharp Objects

 

Pointed or bladed articles capable of causing injury, including:

  • Axes & hatchets
  • Arrows & darts
  • Crampons
  • Harpoons & spears
  • Ice axes & ice picks
  • Ice skates
  • Lockable or flick knives with blades of any length
  • Knives, including ceremonial knives, with blades of more than 6 cm, made of metal or any other material strong enough to be used as a potential weapon
  • Meat cleavers
  • Machetes
  • Open razors and blades (excluding safety or disposable razors with blades enclosed in cartridge)
  • Sabres, Swords & swordsticks
  • Scalpels
  • Scissors with blades of more than 6 cm in length
  • Ski and Walking/Hiking poles
  • Throwing stars
  • Tradesman’s tools that have the potential to be used as a pointed or edged weapon e.g. drills bits, box cutters, utility knives, all saws, screwdrivers, crowbars, hammers, pliers, wrenches/spanners, blow torches

Blunt instruments

 

Any blunt instrument capable of causing injury, including:

Clubs or batons – rigid or flexible – e.g. Billy clubs, blackjacks, night sticks & batons
  • Baseball and softball bats
  • Cricket Bats
  • Golf Clubs
  • Hockey sticks
  • Lacrosse sticks
  • Kayak and Canoe paddles
  • Skateboards
  • Billiard, snooker and pool cues
  • Fishing rods
  • Martial arts equipment e.g. knuckle dusters, clubs, coshes, rice flails, num chucks, kubatons, kubasaunts

    Explosives and Highly Inflammable Substances

     

    Any explosive or highly combustible substances which poses a risk to the health of passengers and crew or the security / safety of aircraft or property, including:

    • Ammunition
    • Blasting caps
    • Detonators & fuses
    • Explosives and explosive devices
    • Replica or imitation explosive material or devices
    • Mines and other explosive military stores
    • Grenades of all types
    • Gas and gas containers e.g. Butane, propane, acetylene, oxygen – in large volume
    • Fireworks, flares in any form and other pyrotechnics (including party poppers and toy caps)
    • Non safety matches
    • Smoke generating canisters or cartridges
    • Flammable liquid fuel e.g. Petrol/gasoline, diesel, lighter fluid, alcohol, ethanol
    • Aerosol spray paint
    • Turpentine and paint thinner
    • Alcoholic beverages exceeding 70 % by volume (140% proof)

    Chemical and Toxic substances

     

    Any chemical or toxic substances which poses a risk to the health of passengers and crew or the security/safety of aircraft or property, including:

    • Acids and Alkalis e.g. spillable ‘wet’ batteries
    • Corrosive or Bleaching Substances – e.g. mercury, chlorine
    • Disabling or incapacitating sprays – e.g. mace, pepper spray, tear gas
    • Radioactive material – e.g. Medicinal or commercial isotopes
    • Poisons
    • Infectious or biological hazardous material – e.g. infected blood, bacteria and viruses
    • Material capable of spontaneous ignition or combustion
    • Fire extinguishers

     NB: Articles of any kind not listed in the above list, giving rise to suspicion, will be refused by airport security staff. If you are in doubt, ask the airline.

     

     

    Passengers are not permitted to carry the following articles in hold baggage

    It is not permitted to carry the following articles in hold baggage:

    • Explosives, including detonators, fuses, grenades, mines and explosives
    • Gases: Probane, butane
    • Flammable liquids, including Gasoline, methanol
    • Flammable solids and reactive substances, including Magnesium, firelighters, fireworks, flares
    • Oxidizers and organic peroxides, including Bleach, car body repair kits
    • Corrosives, including Mercury, vehicle batteries

    NB: If required, the airport security staff may forbid the transport of checked baggage containing an object which is not comprised by the list if such object gives cause for concern. If you are in doubt, ask the airline.




  • Silent Airport
    To make it more comfortable for the passengers while they are in the departure area, departure will not be announced over the loud speaker system. The gate number from which your aircraft will leave is printed on your boarding card, and is displayed on the the electronic board in the departure hall and on monitors next to the entrance to the departue lounges.

    It is important, that the passengeres keep themselves informed of when to "Go to gate" and the time of "Boarding". These information will be given on the board and on the monitors mentioned above.



    Smoking

    Smoking is generally not allowed in the terminal. Only in the glass smoking cabins in Café Cumulus, in the departure hall at Capella Bar and Café Cirrus it is allowed to smoke. Also in King Amlet Lounge there are smoking cabins. When you enter the arrival hall to your left, there is a spacious smoking room. You are also allowed to smoke in the free air in front of the passenger terminal.


    Smoking is allowed in:

    • The glass smoking cabins
    • The designated room in the arrival hall
    • In the free air outside the terminal



      Transfer

    Transfer at Billund Airport

     

    On arrival please follow the transfer signs to the transfer counter in the arrival hall. Use the staircaise or the lift to the security inspection point - one level up.

    In the departure hall you will find the duty free shop, gift shops, a bar and Café Cirrus.

    If you have not been checked through to your final destination at the departure airport, check-in is done at the transfer counter or at the information desk in the departure hall.

     

    Billund Airport is a ”silent airport”. Please keep yourself informed about departure gates etc. via the monitors in the departure hall.

      Travelling with Animals

    If you are travelling with an animal it must be kept in a special box during transportation. If you do not already have a box, it can be purchased at the airport, but it must be pre-ordered. Kindly contact Airport Information, phone +45 76 50 50 59.

     

    Traveling with animals in the cabin

    There are different rules from one airline to another regarding having animals with you in the cabin during a flight. Please ask the airline in question, how you should do, regarding carrying the aninal and about booking.



    The animal box must be of proven type and size for the animal in question.

    Remark: IAs a passenger it is your responsibility to ensure that the regulations of the country you are going to concerning health certificate and vaccinations of the animal are fulfilled before departure.




    Travelling with Sports Equipment
    If you are travelling with bulky or heavy sports equipment, you must declare this when buying the ticket, irrespective of buying directly with the airline or through a travel agency. Normally such equipment must be wrapped.


      Unaccompanied Minors (up to 12 years)
    You are welcome to accompany a child who is in your care, but flying alone, through both security and departure control and direct to the gate. As the departure area is protected area is a protected aerea, you need to obtain an admission card from the check-in counter.
